INTRODUCTION

Utili Plan & Design Group (UP&D) is the single source for all of your dry utility (electric, telephone, cable television, fiber optics and natural gas) Planning, Design, Engineering and Management needs throughout the State of New Jersey. UP&D was founded with the idea of working for, and as a liaison between, the Dry Utility Companies and the Private Contractors, along with Municipal, County and State Agencies and Contractors. Further, UP&D has the ability to assist the dry utilities with their own in-house Planning, Design and Engineering needs.

UP&D has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the current utility design and construction standards and practices. UP&D is comprised of utility design, engineering and management professionals with experience working for utility companies and private design consultation firms. This unique complement of skills enables UP&D to understand issues from both sides of the table; from the client's perspective, helping UP&D to better meet the client's project goals and from the utility company's perspective, further helping our clients to achieve the design and operating integrity required by the utilities. This ultimately benefits UP&D's clients by seamlessly meshing their development goals and objectives with the typical utility company constraints.

The bottom line is that by leading the way through the utility community which is becoming ever increasingly chaotic due to rapidly changing technology and de-regulation, UP&D is able to save our clients both time and money during these challenging economic times and to make their projects flow more smoothly during development and beyond.

PLANNING & CONSULTING

Prior to proceeding into final utility design and engineering, the development of a master utility plan or concept plan for each utility system allows the development team to analyze the design and construction alternatives. By integrating utility planning with the other planning/consultant disciplines (civil, architectural and land planning), future conflicts can be avoided and a greater understanding of future issues should make the transition into final design and construction occur much smoother.

DESIGN & ENGINEERING

UP&D meets the needs of the utility companies and the building industry, providing flexibility, choice and control over the planning and design process. We have experience in telecommunications design and designing master planned communities’ infrastructure.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT & COORDINATION

The management of the design and construction process involves coordinating each development team member - consultants, contractors, project management, and construction management, sales and marketing. By effectively communicating individual and collective efforts and managing tasks, schedules and financial budgets are more likely to be met. UP&D's project management team format allows us to ensure clear and timely communications, project coordination and management.

Our teams consist of a Principal-In-Charge, Project Manager/Designer and Project Coordinator, all of whom strive to represent each client in a specialized manner while adhering to our management template.

SITE DUE DILIGENCE & COST ESTIMATING

UP&D can identify and address potential conflicts between existing utility systems and proposed project changes to a site. We can perform these site studies for lenders, developers, utility companies, municipalities and engineers/land planners. Our research includes surveying the site, obtaining as-builts or facility maps from the utility companies, and interviewing key staff within those companies to determine as much as we can about the site. From this information we are able to provide a preliminary cost estimate which is invaluable for planning and essential to the financial success of the project.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDIES

When faced with the complex task of reviewing dry utility issues and how they relate to the potential environmental challenges for each development, UP&D is uniquely qualified to answer these questions for our clients during the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) stage of development. Each
UP&D dry utility study thoroughly covers the complex research needed to complete the EIS including: calculating gas and electric load studies, determining locations of existing dry utilities near each project, researching regional gas and electric transmission / generation infrastructure and investigating New Jersey electric industry de-regulation and preparing a site exhibit. Finally, UP&D will respond to the EIS team questions, meet with utility representatives, and prepare a final technical report.

COMPOSITE DRAWINGS

With today’s projects becoming ever complex, the UP&D composite drawings help to consolidate multiple engineering disciplines into a single reference exhibit. For our clients, their contractors, and other team members, a composite is a great tool to easily identify potential conflicts early in the project. Working closely with other consultants, our composite drawings can be regularly updated to reflect the project’s most accurate and up-to-date plans.
